Following ideation, our first task was to discover as much as possible about in-season beach patrons, current ticketing services, and how beach-goers feel about the current process in place.
Team Coastli began gathering information by
Researching
Interviewing people at the beach
Downloading the current mobile ticketing app
Calling/Visiting beach municipalities
Buying a seasonal beach pass ourselves
Researching the mobile ticketing market as well as contemporary beach ticketing practices were crucial to analyzing need and assessing potential growth.
To better understand the needs and preferences of our target audience, we gathered data through interviews, surveys, and focus groups with beachgoers and transportation service providers. We also analyzed existing transportation systems and gathered insights from industry experts. Through this research, we were able to identify key pain points and opportunities for improvement in the current beach transportation landscape. This information helped inform our product ideation and design process as we worked to create a solution that would meet the needs of our users and provide a seamless beach transportation experience.
Our team spent two (2) days sharing research and interview data to develop four (4) archetypes of beach-goers. Environment, including both space and time, was a primary consideration within this development process.
Then, we pinpointed the most repeated comments and frustrations experienced by beach visitors, and assessed the feedback based on environmental affordances and constraints. To finalized Coastli's personas, our team assessed feedback from interviewees based on individual environmental affordances and constraints.
NOTE:
Considering environmental factors during persona ideation facilitates user journey mapping, user stories development, and future IxD processes.
As a crucial step in the development of our prototype, we conducted research to gather data and ideas for app products and features, and then used a Design Studio process to generate and refine these ideas. In the end, through a Scrum process, we narrowed down the features to be included in our prototype and organized them into a hierarchy based on relevance and location.
Review our visual representation of the user experience as they interact with Coastli. It captures the various stages and touchpoints of the user's journey, including the initial idea to purchase a beach pass, the process of purchasing and activating the pass, and the various features and benefits they will experience while using it at the beach. Through this map, we were able to gain a deeper understanding of our users' needs and create a product that effectively meets their expectations and enhances their beach experience.
Coastli's mobile beach pass experience is centered around Joan, a frequent beach-goer who values convenience and sustainability. Joan wants a quick and easy way to access the beach without having to worry about printing tickets or carrying around a physical pass. She also wants to reduce her environmental impact by using a digital pass that can be easily accessed on her phone. With the mobile beach pass, Joan can easily purchase and access her pass through a convenient app, reducing waste and streamlining her beach-going experience.
We created this documentation as a visual representation of the core values and aesthetic of Coastli. These guidelines serve as a reference for all design and communication materials related to the product, including logos, colors, typography, and imagery. The guidelines were developed through extensive research and collaboration with our target audience, and aim to create a cohesive and consistent brand experience for our users. Overall, the brand guidelines help ensure that our product is consistently aligned with our brand values and effectively communicates our unique identity to our users.
Using Marvel, we created a functional version of the high-fidelity, interactive wireframe app.
Using this prototype, we performed usability testing. Five (5) off-campus, non-related individuals tested our prototype and found the app to be useful but bulky.
Based on the feedback received, we made some necessary tweaks to the prototype to ensure that it is fully functional and user-friendly.
The final demonstration showcases the potential of the Coastli prototype to be a successful product in the market.
